Grade 9 Students are traveling to Wakayama to visit the UNESCO listed World Heritage area of the Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine and waterfall, hike a section of the Kumano Kodo trail and raft the Kitayama River through Doryoko Gorge. The Kumano Kodo and Kumano and Kitayama rivers were used as pilgrimage routes for centuries. This trip is lead by experienced guides from Evergreen Outdoor Centre who will lead all activities. They are certified outdoor education providers.
Packing List Students should not bring phones on trips. Please contact the school if you need to discuss this further. Please click here for more information Students will be divided into cooking groups. Each group will cook their meals within a set budget under guidance from Evergreen leaders. Students (in their groups) will be required to purchase food before the trip. Discussion about food choices and carrying food will be discussed in sessions during school. Transportation to and from Wakayama will be by bus. Students will be camping and making our own breakfasts, lunches and dinners under the guidance of Evergreen leaders. There are shower and toilet facilities available. We will use the Koguchi and Susaki campgrounds and the associated onsen. Students will break into three groups of 18-20 for camping and activities.
